In Year 5, I have piloted an assessmentĀ planĀ in which children use computers to record their learning each week. The children have created their own Powerpoint presentation which they use as their “Music Book”. Each week they create slides with the Learning Objective, date, and their assignment. Children then complete their assignment online or on the computer, and save their work in their Powerpoint. This method has allowed me to mark children’s work and for them to respond to my marking. However, as mentioned in Standard 4, the poor ICT infrastructure has limited the effectiveness of children to access and complete their work on a consistent basis. Therefore, some Powerpoints have gaps due to the fact that on some weeks children cannot access their work due to poor wireless connection or bandwidth. It was especially difficult for me to mark children’s presentations during Summer 2, given the fact that the server was offline for a couple weeks. However, when things work properly, this has been an effective use of lesson time and children have begun to acclimate to the routine of responding to marking and then working on the next assignment.
