Listed below are samples of music quizzes that I have used as summative assessment for the children.
Year 3 December 2014
The following quiz was used to assess children’s basic understanding of rhythmic symbols (crotchets and rests), and musical vocabulary (pitch and phrase). The quiz was conducted on Smart notebook, which automatically marked the children’s work, therefore providing immediate feedback.

Year 4: February 2015
The following exercise was used to quiz the advanced recorder children in their ability to read musical notation. The children used a special program called Muse Score to access a song that I transcribed for them. The children’s task was to type the names of each pitch above each note. I then saved their work as a pdf file and marked their work. In the following examples, you will be able to see my marks, but you won’t be able to read the comments, as the comments are lost when I upload to this site.
Akasya 4A; Logen 4J; Naheeba 4J

Year 5
The following activity was an assessment of children’s ability to accurately identify time signatures in music. The children listened to a song and used their ipad to record their answer (either 3/4 or 4/4). We then checked our work together.
The children also learned about dynamics, and the musical terms for loud and soft sounds. I used Smart Notebook to administer a quiz to evaluate children’s overall understanding of these terms.
